The Speech-Language Pathologist provides diagnostic evaluations and direct speech-language and swallowing services to patients across acute and long-term care settings. The position works collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other members of the care team to develop individualized treatment plans and support positive patient outcomes across the adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct speech-language and swallowing screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations, including instrumental assessments such as Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies when indicated and ordered.
  • Develop, implement, and continually assess individualized speech therapy plans of care, including measurable short- and long-term goals and appropriate treatment techniques.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, treatment changes, and discharge information accurately and timely in accordance with departmental and hospital standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient progress, treatment recommendations, and discharge planning.
  • Provide age-specific and culturally responsive care while considering each patient’s individual needs and condition.
  • Participate in departmental activities, quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, mandatory training, and development of policies and procedures related to Speech-Language Pathology services.
Education, Experience, Certification and Licensure
  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Speech Pathology, as described in Chapter 468E of the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes.
  • Experience: Must meet all licensing requirements established by the Hawai‘i Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology to practice as a Speech‑Language Pathologist.
  • Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Licensure: Current Hawai‘i State Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology license required.
  • Driver’s License: Current Hawai‘i State driver’s license required.
