Stewarding Supervisor
The Stewarding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the stewarding department, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, equipment handling, and workplace safety throughout all Food & Beverage and Culinary areas. This role provides leadership, training, and direction to the stewarding team while maintaining operational efficiency and supporting exceptional guest experiences.
The ideal candidate is a team player with strong communication and leadership skills, highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a "can do" approach are essential.
Qualifications include:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in hotel Food & Beverage operations, stewarding, or culinary support services.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- Hospitality or culinary school training preferred.
- Background in luxury hotel or high-volume restaurant operations preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Ability to train, coach, and motivate team members.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Responsibilities and duties include:
Operations:
- Ensures that minimum brand standards and operating procedures are implemented and maintained.
- Supervises daily stewarding operations and assigns work responsibilities to stewarding associates.
- Conducts shift briefings and communicates operational priorities to the team.
- Monitors staffing levels and provides support to ensure effective coverage of all stewarding areas.
- Ensures all stewarding associates maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout assigned work areas.
- Oversees dishwashing, pot washing, silver polishing, waste management, and kitchen cleaning operations.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of kitchens, storage rooms, loading docks, refuse areas, and service corridors.
- Ensures all Food & Beverage Essentials and departmental standards are implemented and maintained.
- Monitors the proper use and maintenance of dishwashing machines, pot washing equipment, and cleaning tools.
- Conducts regular inspections of equipment and facilities and reports repair or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensures compliance with food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and health department regulations.
- Maintains accurate inventories and par levels of operating equipment, chemicals, and cleaning supplies.
- Coordinates the distribution, collection, storage, and movement of Food & Beverage operating equipment.
- Assists with scheduling associates and monitoring productivity to meet operational needs.
- Participates in inventory counts and assists in controlling departmental expenses and breakage.
- Monitors and minimizes equipment loss, damage, and misuse.
- Supports banquet and special event operations through equipment setup and breakdown.
- Responds to operational challenges and escalates issues to the Executive Steward when necessary.
- Works closely with Culinary, Banquets, Restaurants, and other hotel departments to support overall operational success.
- Ensures proper waste segregation, recycling practices, grease trap cleaning, and environmental compliance standards.
- Reviews daily operations and follows up on outstanding tasks and departmental priorities.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Supervises, coaches, and mentors stewarding associates to ensure high levels of performance and accountability.
- Participates in the onboarding and training of new associates.
- Ensures all associates receive proper training in equipment operation, chemical handling, sanitation, and safety procedures.
- Conducts regular performance observations and provides constructive feedback.
- Promotes teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment.
- Assists in monitoring attendance, punctuality, grooming, and compliance with company standards.
- Supports departmental training initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Identifies development opportunities and recommends training plans for team members.
