DescriptionThe Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Electronic Technician D - Range Communications Specialist to support our government customer located in Kekaha, Kauai.
Under supervision, oversight from a Senior Technician and assignment from Lead Technician, the technician will provide contracted operational and maintenance support services to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) customer. Responsibilities include operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, modifying, testing, and installing telecommunications systems, networking components, and cabling. The technician should be experienced in telecommunications technologies for voice, video, and data systems or their industry equivalents that are assigned to PMRF communications facilities and assets.
Descriptionof Responsibilities
- Sets‑up, checks‑out, operates, monitors, and maintains systems and equipment for Range Operations support. Responds to evolving operational environments requirements when directed.
- Performs periodic inspections and maintenance tasks in accordance with published procedures and/or OEM guidelines. Documents results of all maintenance actions in systems and equipment records.
- Performs troubleshooting and repair of systems/equipment by reading and interpreting electronic/mechanical schematics and using simple and complex tools and test equipment.
- Installs, checks‑out, benches tests, calibrates, and performs acceptance tests on new and relocated systems and equipment as directed.
- Performs Communications Security (COMSEC) functions, including accounting, loading, and destruction and courier services for classified cryptographic materials and items.
- Maintains Telecommunications Inside Cable Plant and Major Battery Backup Systems.
- Occasional travel for operations and maintenance support at other locations throughout the State of Hawaii, including at sea for extended periods.
- Performs other duties as required.
Electronics shop, radio frequency field environments, operations command and control center. Travel to and work at remote site locations, including at sea for extended periods.
Physical Activities- Must be able to lift, carry, install, and remove electronics equipment and peripherals up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb elevated towers and work in sub‑floor areas and crawl spaces while performing maintenance inspections and troubleshooting tasks.
- High School diploma or equivalent plus one of the following:
- Associate’s Degree in a related field or equivalent training, e.g., a two‑year technical school or Navy "A" school with specialization in Basic Electricity and Electronics Systems.
- Soldering certificate or equivalent training included within the curriculum of a technical school or commercial firm.
- Two (2) years of progressive experience operating and maintaining electronic systems and equipment.
- Progressive experience in using and interpreting results of test equipment used in telecommunications, video, and networking fields such as oscilloscopes, RF power meters, analyzers, voltage multimeters, bit error rate testers, time domain reflectometers, and toners/tracers.
- Basic Electricity & Electronics theory and applications with emphasis in telecommunications and network troubleshooting and repair.
- Progressive experience reading and interpreting schematic diagrams for troubleshooting and repair. Must possess a soldering certificate or equivalent training from a commercial firm, technical school, or Navy school.
- Experience with Windows‑based OS and Linux platforms.
- Proficient PC skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint within Windows OS.
- Radio Frequency (RF) experience, including but not limited to transmission and antenna systems for ground radio, microwave, satellite, and other associated telecommunications technologies.
- Experience in telecommunications inside cable plant, main and intermediate distribution frame, and cable record keeping.
- Experience with major battery backup and power distribution systems.
