At our Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, the hospital veterinarian position is the most immersive role. Veterinarians provide high‑quality care to animals and collaborate closely with clinic staff, specialists, and clients.
Essential Job Functions- Provide excellent patient care through physical examinations, disease diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care.
- Use a problem‑based approach: develop problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatment plans, and interpret diagnostic results.
- Document all patient observations, findings, diagnostics, treatments, and client interactions in the medical record concisely and accurately.
- Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal explorations, and mass removals.
- Perform routine and complex dental procedures, including full dental exams, radiograph evaluations, extractions, and oral surgeries.
- Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and transition them to overnight care when needed.
- Participate in shift rounds and communicate effectively with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in rounds as an incoming or outgoing doctor at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve the level of care and communication provided.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school.
- Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state of employment.
- Current DEA and, if applicable, Controlled Substance licenses; USDA Category I accreditation.
- Must be comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including spays/neuters, mass removals, and dentals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; teamwork and willingness to learn new techniques.
- Compassionate, professional demeanor during stressful situations; technical computer and telephone skills.
Work is conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full‑service hospital. The role requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 lbs), standing for long periods, and frequent direct contact with clients and pets.
