Salary:

Level II - $4,590.00 to $5,588.00 (SR-18, Step D to I)

Level III - $4,961.00 to $6,043.00 (SR-20, Step D to I)

Level IV - $5,369.00 to $6,535.00 (SR-22, Step D to I)

As an advanced trainee, assists in the conduct of wildlife research, development and management work; receives training in the more advanced skills, techniques and procedures to supplement academic training; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Independently performs a limited range of professional wildlife research, development or management assignments; plans census and surveys of game species; collects, compiles and analyzes hunter use and kill data; independently conducts smaller wildlife research, development and management projects; may direct the work of lower-level professional and non-professional wildlife workers; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife manages state Forest Reserves, Natural Area Reserves, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Game Management Areas, and Public Hunting Areas. Program areas include forestry, wildlife, trails and access, and natural area reserves.

This position supports the Oahu Wildlife Resources and Management Section’s Hunting Management Program. The program provides public hunting opportunities by establishing and maintaining Public Hunting and Game Management Areas. Additionally, this position explores and implements other initiatives to expand public hunting opportunities, enhance gamebird populations, and provide technical assistance to hunting interest groups and clubs. This position participates in wildland fire suppression operations.

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

• At least eighteen (18) semester credit hours of coursework applicable to wildlife biology in such subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, animal husbandry, zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology (animal), genetics, animal taxonomy, parasitology, entomology, herpetology, biometry; or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and
• At least six (6) semester credit hours in botany or the related plant sciences

None (0) for the II level, one (1) year for the III level, and for the IV level, two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in wildlife conservation, development and management, and/or wildlife research.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
