Job Summary

The Campus Security Supervisor is a mission‑critical leadership position responsible for managing daily operations and personnel in the Security Services division, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the BYUH and PCC communities. This role requires a strategic mindset, operational expertise, and high‑level supervisory capabilities to oversee campus safety, incident response, compliance, and emergency preparedness.

Key Responsibilities and Scope Supervisory Leadership (65%)
  • Manages multi‑shift operations across campus and PCC; leads hiring, onboarding, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for part‑time and student security personnel.
  • Develop team schedules aligned with institutional needs.
  • Exercises independent judgment in high‑stakes situations; authorizes incident escalations, resource deployment, and policy‑level recommendations.
  • Establishes performance benchmarks, shift protocols, and continuous training cycles.
  • Conducts quality control of reports, logs, and documentation to ensure legal and procedural accuracy.
  • Oversee timekeeping, and administrative workflows in support of departmental operations.
  • Mentors staff for leadership readiness.
  • Troubleshoots advanced systems (access control, video surveillance, emergency alert platforms); trains staff in system operations.
Campus Security and Risk Response (25%)
  • Performs security audits and institutional risk mitigation assessments.
  • Serves as on‑scene supervisor or incident commander during emergencies, critical events, and campus threats unless relieved by Manager or Director..
  • Performs proactive patrols to maintain visibility, responds to alarms and emergencies, and provides field assessments.
  • Coordinate st with police, EMS, and other external entities during joint responses or investigations.
  • Promotes a culture of compliance, safety, and awareness through public engagement and education.
  • Maintains readiness of vehicles, radios, and security systems; performs inspections and audits.
Special Events & Emergency Preparedness (10%)
  • Collaborates with university leadership, emergency services, and law enforcement; represents security in cross‑departmental safety and initiatives.
  • Recommends procedural improvements; contributes to emergency preparedness plans, resource planning, and departmental strategic objectives.
  • Serves as primary responder for high‑risk emergencies; (e.g., threats to life, active shooter, fire); involved in post‑incident reviews and debriefs.
  • Coordinates Assist in coordinating and leading security coverage for major campus and PCC events, including graduation, devotionals, and cultural performances.
  • Leads logistical planning for crowd control, ingress/egress, and perimeter security.
  • Collaborates with university event teams and administration to ensure safe execution of events.
Distinguishing Job Features
  • Serves in a high‑liability, high‑visibility role requiring independent decision‑making and sound judgment.
  • Operates under 24/7 conditions, including rotating shifts, holidays, and emergency callouts.
  • Leads security functions in both academic and commercial (PCC) settings, requiring diverse operational adaptability.
  • Willing to obtain Certification under the State of Hawaii Guard requirements; maintains First Aid/CPR and defensive tactics certifications.
  • Functions as a liaison and mediator in matters involving students, faculty, staff, and external law enforcement.
Minimum Qualification and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 1-3 years in law enforcement, military police, or security management, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience with a demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Certifications:

    State of Hawaii Guard Card (required), Valid Hawaii Driver's License (required), First Aid/CPR (within 90 days of hire), Defensive Tactics Certification (preferred).
Skills
  • Demonstrate strong managerial skills, leadership characteristics, and traits.
