Security Officer, Kahalu'u Makai (Temporary)

We are seeking Security Officers to serve at the Kahaluʻu Makai site of Kamehameha Schools. These temporary, part‑time positions require coverage of all shifts: 1st watch (10:00p.m.–6:00a.m.), 2nd watch (6:00a.m.–2:00p.m.), and 3rd watch (2:00p.m.–10:00p.m.). Flexibility and a willingness to work any shift are essential.

Job Summary

Provide security services for students, faculty, staff, visitors and facilities. Duties include monitoring CCTV cameras; performing vehicle and foot patrols; enforcing traffic and parking regulations; conducting safety inspections; investigating and recording incidents; supervising parking and crowds; monitoring and restricting access to sacred sites; managing vendor and public access; directing visitors and delivery vehicles; and maintaining detailed records of campus entries and exits.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by strictly following security protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct regular vehicle and foot patrols, remaining alert to unusual conditions or unauthorized personnel.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras with constant vigilance toward potential risks or incidents.
  • Identify potential safety, criminal, or hazard issues and promptly report them.
  • Oversee traffic flow, parking, and crowd control at school events and special functions both on and off campus.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies such as workplace violence, intrusions, natural disasters, fires, assaults, or other crisis situations.
  • When necessary, pursue, apprehend, and detain individuals within jurisdictional limits using de‑escalation techniques and defensive training.
  • Make sound decisions in high‑stakes situations to maintain legal compliance and safety.
  • Enforce entry restrictions for unauthorized people or vehicles, manage visitor and delivery access, and keep detailed records of campus entries/exits.
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with KS security standards.
  • Investigate and document traffic, criminal, and non‑criminal incidents, providing thorough reports for transparency.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for listed requirements.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s license and current driving abstract.
  • Current DCCA Guard Employee License or ability to obtain certification within 60 days from hire.
  • Current standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Ability to work independently and accommodate a rotational 24/7 schedule.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for interacting with KS staff, students, parents, and the public.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and ability to learn and operate CCTV systems.
  • Competence in typing and computer use for detailed incident reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in security, police, or emergency response.
  • Security experience within a K‑12 school environment.
  • Knowledge of security‑related software and applications.
  • Specialized training in crisis intervention, drone operation, defensive tactics, or similar programs.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Frequent writing by hand, standing, walking, and lifting or carrying objects up to 50pounds.
  • Occasional sitting and desk‑based computer tasks, requiring light or fine manipulation.
  • Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, reaching or working above shoulder level, or gripping firmly.
Working Conditions

May involve traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands, to conduct business. Work is conducted in a school environment and may be 24hours/day, 7days/week, in non‑standard outdoor settings.

Hourly Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $26.40–$35.42 per hour. Salaries are commensurate with job‑related experience, skills, education, internal equity, length of work year, and other organizational needs. Benefits are summarized in the Kamehameha Schools Total Rewards Program.
