Job Summary

The heating, ventilation and air conditioning HVAC/Plumbing Technician performs installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial HVAC and plumbing systems. This position is open to both entry-level and experienced technicians. Employees in this role are expected to demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality. Depending on experience, work may be performed independently or under supervision.

Ongoing training and professional development will be provided to support skill growth and career advancement.

Primary Responsibilities

HVAC

* Install, maintain, and repair residential and commercial HVAC systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.

* Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues to maintain optimal performance and efficiency.

* Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including cleaning coils, checking for leaks, replacing filters, and lubricating components.

* Calibrate thermostats, sensors, and control systems for accurate temperature regulation.

* Inspect and repair piping, ductwork, and insulation to improve system functionality and energy efficiency.

Plumbing

* Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, valves, and fixtures.

* Service and replace water heaters, boilers, pumps, and other plumbing equipment.

* Inspect systems for leaks, blockages, and pressure issues using gauges and diagnostic tools.

* Identify root causes of malfunctions and perform effective repairs or replacements.

* Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant operation.

Student Supervision

* Oversee and manage daily tasks of student employees to ensure productivity and accountability.

* Assign projects and monitor progress to ensure accuracy and timely completion.

* Mentor, coach and provide constructive feedback to support technical and professional development.

* Design and conduct training programs to build technical and professional skills.

* Promote lifelong work habits such as integrity, dependability, effective communication, and professionalism.

General Duties

* Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan and execute work.

* Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent.

* Collaborate and communicate clearly with engineers, supervisors, technicians, contractors, and campus personnel to ensure efficient facility operations and maintenance support.

* Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours emergencies.

* Follow OSHA safety standards, building codes, and university policies.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification and Experience

* High school diploma or GED required.

* 1-5 years of work experience in HVAC, plumbing or a related trade preferred, but not required.

* HVAC or plumbing certification, or experience in an apprenticeship program preferred, but not required.

* Valid US Driver's License required.

* Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge related to HVAC controls and components.

* Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

* Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work in various environments, including indoors, outdoors, attics, crawl spaces, etc).

Approximate starting hourly rate:

24.00 - 27.00
