Water Plant Electrical and Electronic Equipment Technician
Job DescriptionInstalls, maintains, overhauls, operates, and repairs water plant electrical, electronic, and mechanical control devices and equipment; and performs other related duties as required. There are two (2) immediate permanent full-time vacancies with the Department of Water Supply
- Operations Division in Kailua-Kona. (Geographic District III
- South Kona and North Kona). Special
Working Conditions:
Applicants must be available for stand-by duty and be able to respond to emergency calls during non-working hours, and must reside within the geographic district employed in when on stand-by duty. Must be able to work overtime as needed. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Qualification Requirements
Training and
Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
- Graduation from high school, and
- One (1) year of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plant electrical and electronic equipment, instruments, and devices, which shall have included work with high, medium, and low voltage lines and equipment, and
- Possession of a State of Hawai`i journey level electrician's or industrial electrician's license at time of filing (scan and attach a copy of your electrician's license to your application), and
- Possession of a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class
3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire).
Examination:
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application. It is essential that the applicant describe fully the duties and responsibilities of each position held, specify the date of each position held (from and to, month and year), and indicate the number of hours worked per week. Knowledge of: the theories of electricity and electronics; practices, tools, equipment, instruments, and materials used in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic repairs; installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical and electronic control devices and equipment; installation, maintenance, and repair of high, medium, and low voltage electrical lines, equipment, and appliances; operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanically and electrically operated pumps and equipment such as boilers, altitude and hydraulic valves, chlorinators, electric motors, etc.;
laws, rules, and standards pertaining to electrical construction and maintenance; and hazards and safety practices of the trades, including working around electricity and moving machinery. Ability to: read and interpret blueprints, plans, and diagrams of electrical/electronic circuits; use electrical and electronic testing equipment and devices; inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic defects in plant equipment and systems; install, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic control devices and equipment;
work safely; follow oral and/or written instructions; handle weights and loads; work under obnoxious conditions; and work harmoniously with others. Special
