Aircraft Maintenance/ Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location: Wheeler Army Airfield
Responsibilities
Inspects, troubleshoots, and performs maintenance on AH‑64D/E armament, electrical, and avionics systems, including electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic components. Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in armament and avionics systems and components, performs maintenance, authorized modifications, and alignment on aircraft weapons components, fire‑control units, sighting elements, and electronic and mechanical devices. Replaces and performs operational and preventive checks and alignments on aircraft flight controls, stabilization systems, avionics, and controlled cryptographic equipment.
Troubleshoots equipment wiring harnesses using technical manuals and schematic drawings. Tests, troubleshoots, and repairs test sets and diagnostic equipment. Maintains records on weapons and subsystems. Disassembles, repairs, and adjusts aircraft systems as needed. Performs scheduled inspections and assists in special inspections. Operates and maintains tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment. Requisition s bench stock and prepares repair part requests.
Prepares forms and records related to maintenance. Assists aircraft technicians and mechanics on various tasks. Performs additional duties as required and adheres to company policies and safety programs.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- U.S. military technical school or specialized training course (desired); certification of education level required.
- Valid up‑to‑date A&P license (optional).
- Three years aviation maintenance experience, including two years rotary‑wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
- Three years of armament maintenance experience specific to the MDS aircraft armament systems.
- All experience within the six most recent years.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must provide own tools and toolbox (recruiters will provide toolbox requirements upon selection).
- Ability to work day, swing, night, and/or weekend shifts as required for CBA.
- Travel assignments as applicable via CBA clearance requirements.
- Requirement to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
- Requirement to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- U.S. Citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization.
- Thorough knowledge of AH‑64D/E armament/missile fire control systems and repair.
- Ability to determine whether faulty systems or assemblies can be repaired or replaced and to assess the extent of repair required.
- Basic knowledge of aircraft‑specific tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press machine, and tools listed in the AH‑64D/E Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC).
- Good communication skills.
- Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
- Ability to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance performed by an aircraft armament/electrician mechanic.
- Will receive technical guidance and may lead teams through more complex tasks or make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Walk and stand on level or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
- Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees, and reach above or below shoulders.
- May lift, push, or pull heavy objects exceeding 50 pounds.
- Type using a standard keyboard to communicate via e‑mail and software applications.
- Handle dirty parts and lubricants.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Pass a respirator physical and fit test qualification.
- Operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
- Work in a shop environment that may be drafty, noisy, and dirty or outside.
- May be exposed to extreme noise, electrical shock hazards, or moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
- May work in austere environments and all‑weather conditions (Hawaii).
