This vacancy is with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Waimanalo-Kailua.

Salary: $6,221 to $7,568 per month (SR-24, Step D to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Job Overview

Social Workers seek to improve the overall quality of life of people within the context of their environment through remediation and prevention of problems, and by improving accessibility, accountability and coordination of service delivery among a variety of professionals and/or agencies tasked with providing appropriate services to clients. These professionals work in hospitals, social service agencies, schools, correctional facilities, substance abuse programs, aging and family violence programs.

All Social Workers and Human Services Professionals use similar concepts, principles, and techniques regardless of program setting.

The Social Worker V positions serve as supervisors over groups of lower-level social workers and other professional staff providing human services or are engaged in program development and evaluation functions.

Types of Social Worker V Positions
  • Type A:
    Unit supervisors with full technical and administrative responsibility over a group of subordinate Social Workers and possibly other professional staff. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing activities, reviewing and evaluating work of subordinate staff, providing technical guidance and staff training, counseling, and discipline.
  • Type B:
    Program specialists or staff consultants assigned to new or existing programs, or major segments of large programs. Responsibilities include monitoring program goals and policies, developing, evaluating, or modifying program components, anticipating staff training needs, developing training materials, implementing staff training, and directing lower-level program specialists.
Qualifications

Legal Authorization to Work: All persons seeking employment must be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

Basic

Education:

Social Worker:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctoral degree in social work accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, or a comparable regional accreditation.

Specialized

Experience:

Applicants must possess progressively responsible professional work experience involving helping individuals and families. The required years of experience vary by degree level:

  • Bachelor of Social Work: 3 years.
  • Master of Social Work: 2 years.
  • Ph.D. in Social Work: 1 year.

Other Requirements: Conditional offers will be subject to drug screening and an intensive background check.
