RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Show initiative in developing new methods or processes to ensure the highest quality product and efficient methods utilized
- Evaluate technical feasibility of work content and understand suppliers’ technical capabilities and limitations
- Inform DFM discussions based on vendor feedback
- Ensure partners are prepared to support prototype builds with appropriate equipment and materials to ensure a successful product development, ramping up and production
- Take ownership of team effort to develop and implement sourcing and cost management strategies that support existing platforms and new product development
- Present value propositions to Space
X management, including those related to contract awards, cost reviews, cost reduction strategies and critical supply issues - Manage cost aggressively to ensure adherence to project-specific budgets and forecasts; develop should-cost models for competitive cost analysis
- Develop clear technology and commodity roadmaps for current commodities and products as they relate to future Space
X programs - Be the liaison between supply chain and engineering for supplier and down selection during NPI while improving or sustaining cost targets
- Develop and maintain strong relationships across disciplines and multiple levels of management
- Manage supply base from concept to end of life to ensure continuity of supply with the right materials driving plan and on-time delivery
- Responsible for creating POs, on-time delivery of materials for internal and external operations, invoice resolution, meeting company quality requirements while meeting cost targets
- Guide junior staff members and provide strategic support whenever needed
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree and 3+ years of relevant experience in Engineering, Purchasing, Contract negotiation, Material or production planning, Operations or supply chain management, Material cost control, or Master production scheduling; or a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience; or 9+ years of experience in one or more of these areas
- Or combination thereof as outlined in original description
PREFERRED
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Capable of managing existing external supply chain and suppliers both domestic and global
- Extensive experience within supply chain (technical procurement, product development, NPI, manufacturing and negotiating high-volume products)
- Technical knowledge in a commodity (e.g., composites raw material, composite component manufacturing, machining, soft goods)
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence
- Proven track record of ownership, negotiating favorable pricing and driving results
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving environment
- Highest level of integrity in all activities
- Experience planning purchasing of commodity products and third-party services, collaborating with product development, quality, finance and sales
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to travel up to 30% (including international travel)
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones
- This position is based in Hawthorne, CA and requires onsite presence

Space
X offers a compensation package that may include base salary, long-term incentives, bonuses, and stock options. For this role: $ - $ per year. Final level and salary depend on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is one component of the total rewards package, which may include stock or stock options, discretionary bonuses, a 401(k) plan, medical, vision, dental, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave in accordance with company policy.
Employees may accrue three weeks of paid vacation and 10+ paid holidays per year; sick leave accruals follow company policy.
