ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
- Understand and implement machine guarding where needed.
- Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits.
- Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.).
- Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, RWQCB, NEPA and other applicable regulatory agencies.
- Ensure that resources are allocated appropriately to safety-related items.
- Ensure technicians are completing required safety inspections via daily communication and oversight.
- Ensure hazards are being appropriately addressed and that Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments are created.
- Maintain record‑keeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD.
- Maintain compliance with the Certified Unified Program Agency.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety.
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs.
- Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non‑hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water.
- Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area.
- Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed.
Pay range:
Level I: $95,000.00 - $ per year
Level II: $ - $ per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job‑related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
