Position: Production Engineer (Starship Electronics)

Job Overview
The Starship Electronics team is building hardware for Starship and Super Heavy. The role supports production of all electrical systems—from communications to power, navigation, and life support—ensuring low cost and high volume manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, standardize, and continuously improve process chains for Starship electronics components.
  • Design and deliver new factory stations and production assets to expand capability, reduce cycle time, and improve yield.
  • Design mechanical tooling required to build, test, and deliver avionics hardware, including custom tools and capital automation equipment.
  • Develop design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM) guidelines and collaborate with design engineering to co‑design product and factory.
  • Act as an expert on low‑cost, high‑reliability manufacturing techniques for aerospace electro‑mechanical components.
  • Guide high‑level vehicle architecture and requirements trade studies to reduce vehicle cost and ease of production.
  • Analyze root cause and provide corrective actions for process escapes or variability in mechanical and electrical processes.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or industrial engineering.
  • 1+ years of manufacturing engineering experience through project work, research, internship, or professional roles.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience influencing stakeholders across organizational lines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including presentations to engineers, team members, and management.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design tools and analysis—CAD, FEA, GD&T, drawing creation, tolerance stack analysis.
  • Experience with PCB fabrication, PCBA assembly, and DFM requirements.
  • Experience with electro‑mechanical assembly processes and DFM.
  • Experience designing production systems for controllers, sensors, cameras, optics, or long‑range RF communications, demonstrated by multiple fielded products.
  • Experience with PFMEA and corrective actions to reduce process risk.
  • Experience introducing capital equipment/automation, including process control and preventive maintenance plans.
  • Experience in high‑volume or high‑reliability manufacturing environments.
  • Experience reducing processing cost through cycle time, labor time, or yield improvements.
  • Proficiency in manipulating data with programming languages such as SQL or Python.
Additional Requirements
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required for critical milestones.
  • Occasional travel to Starbase, Texas, and vendor locations.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range:
Production Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $ per year
Production Engineer/Level II: $ - $ per year
