Role Description

The Laser Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Hawthorne, CA. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing laser systems used in automated welding and related metal processing applications. Day-to-day tasks include performing optical and laser design calculations, selecting and integrating laser components, and running experiments to validate system performance. The Laser Engineer will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to integrate laser solutions into robotic platforms, troubleshoot issues, and refine system reliability.

The role also involves documenting test results, contributing to technical reports, and supporting continuous improvement of laser-based welding processes.

Qualifications
  • Strong background in Laser and Laser Physics for design, characterization, and optimization of laser systems.
  • Experience in Optical Engineering for beam delivery, focusing optics, and system integration.
  • Research and Development (R&D) skills for experimental design, prototyping, and iterative improvement of laser applications.
  • Solid foundation in Physics to model laser-matter interactions and support data-driven engineering decisions.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial or research-grade laser equipment and safety practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience with automated welding, robotics, or materials processing is highly beneficial.
