Machine Shop Scheduler / Production Planner, Medical Device CNC (Hawthorne, CA)
If you've ever watched a shop miss a delivery because the schedule didn't account for a quality hold on OP2, and thought "I could fix that," this role was built for you.
Pave Talent is hiring on behalf of our client, an ISO 13485 certified precision CNC contract manufacturer in Hawthorne, CA specializing in orthopedic surgical implants, bone screws, and tight-tolerance components used in real surgical procedures. Founded by engineers with a machining legacy going back to the 1940s, this is a company that takes quality seriously and is currently in an active growth phase, scaling both headcount and production capacity across Swiss turning and multi-axis milling operations.
You'll report directly to the General Manager and serve as the central nervous system of a multi-machine CNC shop floor. This is not a paper-pushing scheduling role. You'll own the master production schedule across CNC mills, lathes, Swiss turning centers, and secondary operations, and you'll be the person who knows where every job is, what's at risk, and what to do about it.
The shop runs two full shifts with strong customer demand and a fast-moving floor. You'll be the one who sees around corners before problems become late shipments.
Responsibilities- Build and maintain the master production schedule across OP1, OP2, OP3, and downstream processes for CNC mills, lathes, and Swiss turning equipment
- Sequence and balance work orders against finite machine capacity, setup times, run times, and labor constraints in real time
- Coordinate raw material availability with Supply Chain and receiving to prevent floor stoppages before they start
- Integrate quality checkpoints (First Article Inspections, in-process inspections, final inspection capacity) directly into the schedule
- Adjust schedules dynamically for machine downtime, quality holds, MRB activity, rework events, and customer expedites
- Serve as the primary scheduling interface between machining, quality, procurement, shipping, and sales teams
- Lead or participate in daily and weekly production meetings, clearly communicating priority changes, schedule risks, and recovery plans
- Use Global Shop ERP to manage work order flow, flag long-lead material risks, and monitor schedule adherence
- Hands‑on understanding of CNC machining environments, including multi-operation routings, setup vs. run time tradeoffs, and machine bottlenecks
- Proven experience building finite production schedules (not theoretical ERP plans that ignore real-world constraints)
- Ability to read and interpret routers, work orders, and travelers
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets proficiency for scheduling and capacity planning
- Strong judgment under pressure and comfort pushing back when a schedule is not realistic
- Experience with Global Shop or similar ERP/MRP scheduling software
- Aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing background (ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO 13485 environments)
- Background in production control, planning, or manufacturing supervision
- Lean manufacturing exposure (Kaizen, flow, pull systems)
