CNC Maintenance Technician, Level 4/5 (Starship) – 2nd Shift

SpaceX is actively developing the technologies that will enable human life on Mars. The CNC Machine Maintenance team provides mechanical, electrical, and control support to a wide variety of machining and fabrication assets, including 5‑axis gantries, 5+ axis mill‑turn applications, large vertical lathes, horizontal boring machines, spin‑forming lathes, water jets, and press brakes.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair all assets to ensure proper operating condition.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on complex CNC systems (5‑axis milling, mill‑turn, horizontal and vertical lathes).
- Troubleshoot and repair control and electrical failures involving PLCs, HMIs, servomotors, servo amplifiers, I/O, and field sensors.
- Repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including actuators, valves, pumps, and filters.
- Repair mechanical systems such as ball screws, linear rails, guideways, and gearboxes.
- Operate forklifts and company vehicles as required.
- Perform additional duties that contribute to an efficient and effective work environment.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Five (5) or more years of experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical repair or maintenance.
- Associate’s degree in a technical discipline.
- Experience with CNC control systems such as Siemens 840D, Okuma, Fanuc, Heidenheimer, or Allen Bradley.
- Experience installing, aligning, and commissioning 5‑axis machines in an aerospace environment.
- Experience adjusting CNC geometry components: straightness, squareness, linear accuracy, servo tuning, tool center point control.
- Experience with Renishaw calibration systems including XL‑80 Laser Interferometer and Ballbar.
- Experience operating a forklift and other inventory equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and drawings.
- Ability to write detailed repair reports (advanced MS Office skills).
- Ability to use power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment safely.
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company, quality, and industry standards.
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of demonstrating a high sense of urgency.
- Analytical thinker who identifies root causes and develops permanent solutions.
- Self‑motivated and works well with others.
- Must work the 2nd shift (Monday to Friday: 2:00 PM – 12:30 AM).
- Available for all required shift hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
- Willingness to obtain forklift certification and operate the equipment when required.
- Physical effort with handling lightweight supplies or materials (up to 25 lbs. unassisted).
- Ability to stand, climb, bend, grasp, sit, pull, push, stoop, stretch, and carry as necessary.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Pay range:
Machine Maintenance Technician/Level 4: $40.00 – $49.00 /hour
Machine Maintenance Technician/Level 5: $45.50 – $58.00 /hour
Base salary is determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
