Job Overview
Ring Neighbors is a hyperlocal social networking app providing real‑time crime and safety alerts from neighbors and public safety agencies. Launched in 2018, the app is available on iOS, Android, Web, and is embedded within the Ring app. Millions of people use it each month. In addition to the core platform, the team is working on initiatives such as Search Party Dog, Wildfire, and Expansion AI.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will shape the technical direction, design, and development of core services that make neighborhoods safer. Your responsibilities include architecting, building, and operating large‑scale cloud systems; owning end‑to‑end delivery of complex features; mentoring junior engineers; influencing the technical roadmap; leading design reviews; establishing best practices; and making critical trade‑off decisions that impact millions of customers.

The team owns services primarily built in Go and Python, regularly utilizes Lambda functions in an event‑driven architecture, and delivers backend services and web tools for internal customers such as Neighbors Administrators and the Neighbors News Team. The moderation tooling includes a machine‑learning component, and the team leverages AWS services such as S3, Dynamo
DB, SQS, Kinesis, API Gateway, Cloud Watch, Elasticsearch, Lambda, Redshift, Athena, and Amazon Builder Hub Tools. The team comprises backend, full‑stack, and front‑end developers.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming experience in at least one language
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

Compensationand Benefits
The base salary range for this position in Hawthorne, CA is $–$ USD annually.
