Navigation Point Facilitator

The Navigation Point Facilitator supports students assigned to Navigation Point by the district disciplinary review board because of behavioral concerns at their home schools. The facilitator provides a structured and supportive classroom environment while helping students remain current with their coursework. The facilitator also helps students develop the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills needed to successfully return to their home schools.

The Navigation Point Facilitator reports to the Navigation Point Supervisor, who is the school principal.

The Navigation Point Facilitator will:

• Communicate with students' home-school teachers to obtain assignments, instructional materials, and academic information.
• Ensure students receive, understand, and complete their assigned work.
• Return completed work to the appropriate home-school teachers in a timely manner.
• Monitor academic progress and provide tutoring and organizational support.
• Maintain a structured classroom behavior system with clear expectations, routines, and consequences.
• Motivate, counsel, and mentor students regarding academics, behavior, decision-making, and personal responsibility.
• Teach social-emotional learning lessons and help students develop coping, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Maintain accurate attendance, academic, and behavioral records.
• Communicate significant student concerns to the Navigation Point Coordinator and principal.
• Follow district policies related to student supervision, safety, discipline, confidentiality, and recordkeeping.

The facilitator will:

• Collaborate daily with the Navigation Point Coordinator to address student needs and maintain a positive classroom culture.
• Participate in weekly meetings with the Navigation Point Coordinator, school mentor, and principal.
• Discuss student progress, classroom climate, behavior concerns, successful practices, and needed program changes.
• Work cooperatively with home-school teachers, administrators, counselors, special education staff, families, and other individuals involved in supporting students.
• Assist with student transition and reentry planning.

Applicants must have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• The ability to meet district employment and background-check requirements.
• Experience or demonstrated ability working effectively with adolescents.
• Strong communication, organization, and recordkeeping skills.
• The ability to manage challenging student behavior calmly, fairly, and consistently.
• The ability to provide academic assistance in multiple subject areas.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to use email, online learning platforms, and student information systems.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preference may be given to applicants who have:

• College coursework or a degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, human services, or a related field.
• Experience in a school, alternative education, behavioral support, intervention, or juvenile justice setting.
• Experience working with students who have academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional needs.
• Training or experience in social-emotional learning, restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, conflict resolution, or de-escalation.
• Experience tutoring students or managing a structured classroom environment.
• First aid, CPR, crisis-prevention, or de-escalation certification.
