Location:
Hayden, Idaho or Missoula, Montana
Hybrid role. Candidates must be based within reasonable commuting distance of one of the listed office locations.

Overview
A well-established geotechnical consulting organization is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex projects across Idaho and Montana. This hybrid role blends advanced technical expertise, project management, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in geotechnical analysis and reporting, a strong mentorship background, and a proven ability to work directly with clients.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Analysis
- Lead geotechnical investigations including field exploration, laboratory testing, analysis, and reporting.
- Perform and oversee designs for shallow and deep foundations, slope stability analyses, and seismic hazard evaluations.
- Review, guide, and approve geotechnical work prepared by engineering and technical staff.
- Plan and manage geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
- Supervise junior engineers, geologists, and field technicians.
- Mentor Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and support their progression toward professional licensure.
- Collaborate closely with internal testing and operations leadership to effectively manage project teams.
- Manage the full project lifecycle from proposal development through final reporting and client delivery.
- Oversee project execution, scheduling, financial tracking, and client communications.
- Attend pre-construction and project coordination meetings.
- Ensure geotechnical recommendations are clearly communicated and actionable.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and apply loss prevention and risk management best practices.
- Represent the organization in technical societies, professional associations, and industry events.
- Stay current with applicable engineering standards and integrate best practices into daily work.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required;
Master's degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering preferred. - Active PE license in Idaho, Washington, or Montana, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
- 10 or more years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Strong expertise in geotechnical report writing and development of engineering recommendations.
- Deep understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical laboratory testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with tools such as BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Hybrid work model combining office, remote, and field-based responsibilities.
- Willingness to travel to project sites in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional overtime, weekend, or holiday work during peak construction seasons (typically March through November).
