About the role:

The Medical Assistant Nurse Manager (RN/LPN) is the system-wide operational and clinical leader responsible for Medical Assistant (MA) teams across all Heritage Health clinic locations. This role provides licensed nursing oversight to ensure Medical Assistants practice safely and within defined scope of practice while also serving as the operational owner of MA staffing, training, deployment, and performance. The Medical Assistant Nurse Manager partners closely with Clinic Managers, MA Supervisors, providers, and clinical leadership to optimize clinic flow, improve patient access, and support providers by ensuring MA teams are consistently trained, appropriately staffed, and clinically prepared.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on people development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. The Medical Assistant Nurse Manager leads MA Supervisors and plays a critical role in creating a culture of accountability, learning, and service across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Active Idaho RN or LPN license (required)
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum five (5) years ambulatory or outpatient clinical experience
  • Minimum two (2) years progressive leadership experience (supervisory or managerial)
  • Demonstrated experience leading clinical support teams (Medical Assistants or equivalent)
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Rooming workflows
  • Clinical intake processes
  • Provider support models
  • Outpatient clinic operations
  • FQHC or community health experience preferred
People Leadership & Culture
  • Directly supervises MA Supervisors and provides coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Builds a culture of trust, accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Develops MA Supervisors as frontline leaders through regular 1:1s, rounding, and leadership coaching.
  • Addresses performance and behavioral issues promptly and respectfully.
  • Supports succession planning and development of future MA leaders.
  • Models Heritage Health values and expectations for professionalism and teamwork.
Clinical Oversight & Accountability
  • Serves as the licensed nursing authority for Medical Assistants across all Heritage Health clinics.
  • Ensures MA practice aligns with scope of practice, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides clinical guidance and consultation to MA Supervisors and frontline staff related to intake workflows, rooming standards, escalation processes, and patient safety.
  • Oversees onboarding, clinical orientation, and ongoing competency validation for Medical Assistants.
  • Leads clinical skill refreshers and in-services in partnership with providers and quality leadership.
  • Maintains competency documentation and supports corrective action when clinical standards are not met.
  • Partners with Quality and Clinical Leadership on audits, regulatory readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Flow, Access & Provider Support
  • Owns MA staffing models and deployment across all clinic locations to support efficient patient flow and provider productivity.
  • Acts as a key operational partner to providers by ensuring MA teams are clinically prepared, consistently trained, and optimally deployed.
  • Proactively identifies MA-related barriers impacting provider workflow and leads system-level improvements.
  • Collaborates with Clinic Managers to align MA staffing with daily demand, templates, and clinic needs.
  • Supports initiatives to improve visit start times, rooming efficiency, and overall clinic throughput.
  • Uses data to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Leads process improvement efforts related to MA workflows using Lean principles and PDSA cycles.
  • Establishes and maintains standard work for MA operations across all sites.
  • Partners with clinic leadership to implement consistent practices and reduce variation.
  • Monitors key performance indicators related to staffing, flow, quality, and productivity.
  • Supports daily management systems, visual management boards, and huddle processes.
