Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Crisis Intervention Center

We are the High Plains Mental Health Center, a 24/7 inpatient facility located in Hays, Kansas, dedicated to providing crisis intervention and trauma‑informed mental health care.

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and diagnose mental health and co‑occurring substance use disorders.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, and monitor therapeutic response and side effects.
• Deliver evidence‑based crisis intervention and trauma‑informed care.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, and behavioral health staff to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Lead efforts in suicide prevention, risk assessment, and behavioral de‑escalation.
• Contribute to discharge planning, continuity of care, and patient education.
• Ensure compliance with Kansas regulations regarding mental health, seclusion/restraint, and crisis protocols.
• Participate in team training, emergency preparedness, and facility policy development.
• Mentor nursing staff and support a culture of clinical excellence and safety.

• Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Kansas with prescriptive authority.
• Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP‑BC) Board Certification (preferred) or a commitment to obtaining PMHNP‑BC.
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric/mental health experience; 3+ years preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification (provided by our Center).
• Demonstrated ability to assess and manage psychiatric emergencies.
• Strong foundation in psychopharmacology, crisis stabilization, and trauma‑informed care.
• Completion of required health screenings (TB testing, mental and medical clearance).
• Successful background checks (KBI and KDADS).
