Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Crisis Intervention Center
We are the High Plains Mental Health Center, a 24/7 inpatient facility located in Hays, Kansas, dedicated to providing crisis intervention and trauma‑informed mental health care.
Location & Compensation- Location:
Hays, Kansas – Crisis Intervention Center - Pay:
Base salary based on experience, with a $1,000 sign‑on bonus - Job type:

- Conduct psychiatric assessments and diagnose mental health and co‑occurring substance use disorders.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, and monitor therapeutic response and side effects.
- Deliver evidence‑based crisis intervention and trauma‑informed care.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, and behavioral health staff to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Lead efforts in suicide prevention, risk assessment, and behavioral de‑escalation.
- Contribute to discharge planning, continuity of care, and patient education.
- Ensure compliance with Kansas regulations regarding mental health, seclusion/restraint, and crisis protocols.
- Participate in team training, emergency preparedness, and facility policy development.
- Mentor nursing staff and support a culture of clinical excellence and safety.
- Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Kansas with prescriptive authority.
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP‑BC) Board Certification (preferred) or a commitment to obtaining PMHNP‑BC.
- Minimum 1 year of psychiatric/mental health experience; 3+ years preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (provided by our Center).
- Demonstrated ability to assess and manage psychiatric emergencies.
- Strong foundation in psychopharmacology, crisis stabilization, and trauma‑informed care.
- Completion of required health screenings (TB testing, mental and medical clearance).
- Successful background checks (KBI and KDADS).
