Controller

Our East Bay client is seeking an experienced Controller to support a construction organization in Hayward, California through a contract engagement. This role will oversee core accounting activities, help maintain accurate financial records, and ensure payroll and compliance processes are completed reliably. The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting knowledge, a hands-on approach to day-to-day finance operations, and the ability to communicate clearly across the business.

This engagement is expected to pay $55-65/hr doe.

Responsibilities:

• Direct daily accounting activities across the organization, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and financial processes run smoothly
• Complete bank and account reconciliations on a regular basis to maintain dependable and up-to-date financial reporting
• Manage job cost tracking and reporting so project financial performance can be monitored effectively
• Administer payroll activities with a focus on compliance, including certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements where applicable
• Support workers' compensation audits by preparing records, validating data, and responding to documentation requests
• Oversee business license renewals and related compliance filings to help keep operations in good standing
• Use systems such as Quick Books Enterprise, Procore, Hammr, and Excel to manage accounting records, reporting, and month-end activities
• Partner with internal stakeholders to address financial questions, resolve discrepancies, and improve accounting accuracy and timeliness
