Part‑Time Lecturer Pool Position

Department of Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (EESC) offers degrees in Environmental Science (BS), Environmental Studies (BA), Geography (BS), Geology (BS), and Environmental Geosciences (MS). In addition to courses for EESC majors, the department offers general education courses. Many classes include laboratory and field‑based activities. The department has three lab classrooms, a student computer lab, and shared laboratory space. As of Fall 2026, the department has six tenure‑track faculty, eight part‑time faculty, an office manager, and an instructional support technician.

One or more temporary, part‑time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026 and/or Spring 2027.

Part‑time positions teaching introductory courses in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, and Geology. Lecturers may teach many of the courses listed in the 2026‑27 University Catalog. Due to recent and pending retirements we are particularly interested in applications from individuals able to teach introductory and advanced geology courses, GIS and Remote Sensing courses, and meteorological/atmospheric science. Opportunities may occasionally arise for teaching evening graduate classes in applied fields such as Engineering Geology.

Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. Faculty members will perform all duties within the state of California.

Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026.

Ph.D. Preferred. Minimum requirement: M.S. in Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, or its equivalent, or enrollment in a Ph.D. program in one of those disciplines with sufficient progress toward the degree.
