Assistant Professor – Criminal Justice

Academic Rank: Assistant Professor

Date of Appointment: Fall Semester, 2027

Salary: $86,628 – $92,844 (subject to budgetary authorization)

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in criminal justice ethics, theories of crime, research methods in criminal justice, criminal law and the courts, victimology, restorative justice, and criminal law.
  • Provide teaching at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online as required.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Assume departmental administrative and committee responsibilities, and campus‑wide committee roles.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publish in peer‑reviewed venues.
  • Participate in university service and represent the department at events.
Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field; ABD considered if degree completed by appointment date.
  • Preferred experience teaching criminal law, courts, and victimology.
  • Demonstrated teaching, mentoring, research, or community service experience supporting diversity and academic excellence.
  • Record of scholarly activity, including publications and conference presentations.
  • Commitment to the university’s disability accommodation and accessibility policies.
