The Department

The Department of Criminal Justice offers a Bachelor of Science degree designed to develop knowledge and understanding of practices, theory, ethics, concepts of justice, and professional careers in the criminal justice realm. We also offer a minor in Criminal Justice and a certificate in Crime Scene Investigation, while supporting science students with coursework in forensic science. Established in 1976, the degree program has over 400 students and supports student success through experiential learning, career fairs, internships, and research opportunities.

Duties of the Position
  • The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in areas such as criminal justice ethics, theories of crime, research methods in criminal justice, criminal law and the courts, victimology, restorative justice, and criminal law.
  • Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online.
  • Advising responsibilities, department and committee work, and campus-wide committee responsibilities are expected, in addition to scholarly research, university service, and department representation at events.
Rank and Salary
  • Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization. Anticipated salary: $86,628-$92,844.
Date of Appointment

Fall Semester, 2027.

Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field; ABD considered with degree completed by the effective date of appointment.
  • Preferred teaching experience at the university level.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that demonstrates commitment to diversity and excellence.
  • Record of scholarly activity, including publications and presentations at professional conferences (e.g., ASC, ACJS, ASA).
