Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position
DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES POSITION AVAILABLEOne or more temporary, part-time lecturer positions for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027.
THE DEPARTMENTThe Department of Biological Sciences offers B.S., B.A., and M.S. degree programs as well as a Biotechnology Certificate program. The department has approximately 800 undergraduate majors, 50 M.S. students, 17 tenure-track faculty, and 7 staff. Teaching resources include eleven laboratory classrooms, greenhouse facilities, and a natural history collections room. The B.S. in Biological Sciences includes a rigorous core sequence in biological sciences, with courses in chemistry, physics, selected mathematics and statistics.
Students can select a concentration in Physiology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biomedical Lab Sciences, and Forensic Science. A B.A. in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Biology Education prepares students for secondary science education careers.
Part-time lecturer positions teaching major and non‑major courses in Biology including Introductory Biology, Genetics, Developmental Genetics, Hematology, Microbiology, and Human Physiology and Anatomy. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. California State University requires all faculty to perform duties within the state of California.
RANK AND SALARYLecturer. Salary depends on educational preparation and experience. The appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.
- Lecturer AY (Range 2): $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer AY (Range 3): $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer AY (Range 4): $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer AY (Range 5): $8,593 – $15,211
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
DATE OF APPOINTMENTFall Semester begins August 17 2026;
Spring Semester begins January 19 2027.
A Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or a related field is required. For certain non‑major courses only, the Ph.D. requirement may be waived; a M.S. is required.
