Job Summary

PLEASE NOTE:

This is an 11 month, 195 day position. Calendar will be provided upon hiring.

Quest Academy offers students in Alameda County an alternative to classroom instruction with a standards-based course of study. Independent Study is an instructional strategy that is based on a contractual agreement between the teacher, the student, and the parents/guardians.

We are seeking a dedicated Para educator to support classroom instruction and work alongside the teacher to create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering young women, building meaningful relationships, and helping students achieve academic and personal success.

Requirements / Qualifications

THE POSITION:
The job of Para educator, Community Schools is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program in a high-risk setting with specific responsibility for assisting teachers with instruction, supervision and tutoring of students; monitoring students; providing secretarial support related to the community school program; and serving and clean-up of meals. This position may work in a school setting where interaction with expelled or Probation-referred high school students, foster youth and/or infants and toddlers is required.

This job reports to the Assigned Administrator

SCHEDULE & LOCATIONS
  • Oakland – Emerge School: 510 16th Street Oakland, CA 94612 (Emerge at Girls Inc.)
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
  • Oakland – Bridge Academy: 750 International Blvd. Oakland, CA 94606
TYPICAL DUTIES:

May proctor, administer, and assist in administering assigned testing (e.g. MAP, SBAC, ELPAC, CELDT, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper protocols are followed and maximizing student opportunities for success. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards. Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. meal counts, attendance, reports, etc.)

for the purpose of providing written reference, and/or meeting mandated requirements. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Experience:

    Prior experience working with high-risk students is desirable.
  • CPR/First Aid Training and Conflict Resolution – required to obtain if selected.
