DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS AND DATA SCIENCE
POSITION AVAILABLE
:
One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027.
THE DEPARTMENT
:
The Department of Statistics and Data Science offers undergraduate degrees in Statistics and Data Science, two post-baccalaureate certificates (in applied or mathematical statistics), and master’s degree in Statistics. The Statistics MS degree offers five concentrations (Actuarial, Applied, Biostatistics, Data Science, and Mathematical Statistics). The Department also teaches basic statistics courses for many major programs throughout the University. The concentrations in the MS Statistics program allow students to customize their program specific to their career and academic goals.
Programs include mix of theory and applications and the department uses various software for instructions such as (but not limited to) R, Python, SAS.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION
:
Part-time positions teaching undergraduate statistics courses including general introductory statistics along with those oriented toward various disciplines in business, natural and social sciences, humanities, and engineering. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.
RANK AND SALARY
:
Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
DATE OF APPOINTMENT
:
Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026;
Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.
QUALIFICATIONS
:
Minimum requirement of M.S. in Statistics or Biostatistics (Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics preferred) or M.S. degree in a related field of application with teaching experience.
