Bilingual Para educator

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students in a classroom or other learning environment by interpreting written materials and oral lectures; serve as an interpreter for teachers or non-English speaking parents as directed; perform a variety of routine clerical support duties including maintaining student records and files;

assist in the preparation of instructional materials; provide oral and written translation for students, parents, teachers, administrators and others.

Essential duties include tutoring students, providing classroom support, preparing and administering tests, assisting students with assignments, operating instructional equipment, and communicating with staff and parents. Other duties involve observing student behavior, maintaining a safe learning environment, and performing clerical tasks.

Minimum qualifications include education and experience equivalent to 48 semester units of college study or an AA degree, and one year of experience working with children in an instructional setting using bilingual skills and experience working with people of various cultures. Some positions may require a valid Class C driver's license and a safe driving record. Applicants must be able to speak and write in a designated second language.
