Faculty Employment Opportunity

Part‑Time Lecturer Pool Position – Temporary, part‑time lecturers will be considered from a pool for appointments as they become available for the Fall Semester 2026 and/or Spring Semester 2027.

The Department of Communication prepares students for success through skills in research, critical and cultural analysis, rhetoric, writing, electronic/digital communication, strategic communication, and media production/journalism. It offers a Master of Arts program and undergraduate majors in Strategic Communication, Media Production, and Communication & Media Studies.

Teach coursework in one or more of the following areas according to qualifications:

• Multimedia Journalism
• Media Production
• Photojournalism
• Public Relations
• Advertising
• Communication Organizational Studies
• Media Studies
• Research Methods
• Rhetoric
• Argumentation
• Public Speaking
• Interpersonal Communication

Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. All faculty members perform duties within California.

Lecturer. Salary depends on educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

Salary schedule – Lecturer (Academic Year) classification:

• Range 2: $5,507 – $6,677
• Range 3: $6,221 – $13,224
• Range 4: $6,825 – $14,523
• Range 5: $8,593 – $15,211

Anticipated hiring range generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026;
Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.

Minimum qualifications include a suitable master’s degree in an area of specialization;
Ph.D. preferred.

Photojournalism and Media Production coursework: candidates with experience producing documentaries, media in other countries, and/or media for social justice are preferred.

All coursework: candidates may be asked to provide evidence of scholarship, creative work, or teaching via peer review of student‑faculty evaluations; syllabi; course assignments; and samples of student work.
