Tesla is leveraging world‑class expertise in power electronics, vertical integration, firmware, and large‑scale deployment, we deliver reliable, scalable BESS solutions for residential, industrial, and utility applications. To fuel this mission, Tesla Energy’s Compliance team seeks a passionate Product Validation Engineer with deep expertise in system integration and validation. You’ll ensure seamless hardware‑firmware performance across our BESS portfolio, embodying our core values of rapid iteration, cross‑functional collaboration, and hands‑on innovation to expand sustainable energy worldwide.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Develop comprehensive test plans and automation scripts to verify system integration, interoperability, and compliance with standards (e.g., UL, IEC, IEEE)
- Design, execute, and document validation tests ensuring hardware‑firmware systems meet functional, performance, reliability, safety, and environmental requirements
- Analyze test failures, troubleshoot with design/development teams, and recommend and/or implement fixes and design improvements
- Collect/interpret test data using Python, MATLAB, or specialized tools; produce reports on stability, edge cases, and key metrics (e.g., Islanding, Reactive Power, Ride‑Through, Power Quality, Efficiency)
- Validate sub‑component interactions (e.g., embedded systems, firmware, peripherals) using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and grid/PV/battery simulators
- Ensure BESS adherence to grid interoperability, safety, and performance standards through targeted testing
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and external NRTLs to align test plans, timelines, and resolutions for product launches
- Drive continuous improvement by delivering direct feedback to design owners
- Perform hands‑on hardware bring‑up, prototyping, and iteration
- Degree or Equivalent Experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; 3+ years of experience in validation or testing roles
- Strong knowledge of system architecture, electronics, software programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, Rust, Java), and testing methodologies like black‑box/white‑box testing or regression analysis
- Proficiency with validation tools (e.g., JTAG debuggers, LabVIEW) and familiarity with protocols such as PCIe, USB, CAN, or Ethernet
- Experience with SIL/HIL/Integration testing
- Analytical thinking, problem‑solving, attention to detail, and excellent communication for documenting findings and presenting to stakeholders
- Balancing thorough testing with tight deadlines; handling complex systems where failures can stem from subtle interactions
- Understanding power systems, power quality, and measurement techniques such as digital and analog logging equipment, sampling rate, and measurement accuracy
- Experience working with external regulatory agencies

Expected Compensation
$96,000 – $174,000 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
