AboutThe Role
We are seeking a Data Center Technician to maintain, operate, and secure the physical and network infrastructure of a data center, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted access to critical IT services. This role is responsible for supporting hardware installation, network operations, data and backup management, disaster recovery, security, and technical documentation within a controlled and secure data center environment.
The ideal candidate is technically capable, detail-oriented, and able to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively while communicating with IT staff and management regarding system status and operational concerns.
Work LocationHayward, CA with frequent travel to client sites
Key Responsibilities- Rack and install servers, switches, storage systems, and other data center hardware according to engineering specifications
- Support network operations, including user accounts, permissions, email, anti-virus, and anti-spam systems
- Maintain and update network topology diagrams and related infrastructure documentation
- Execute server backups, support data recovery operations, and verify backup integrity
- Support disaster recovery operations related to power outages, fires, and other incidents
- Implement and maintain physical and cybersecurity measures, including access controls and surveillance systems
- Maintain accurate system logs, equipment inventories, and procedural documentation
- Monitor and communicate system status, operational issues, and infrastructure concerns to IT staff and management
- Follow established data center operational, security, and safety procedures
- Support 24/7 data center operations, including on-call, night, and weekend shifts as required
- High school diploma or GED required;
Associate degree in IT, networking, electronics, or a related field preferred - Entry-level to experienced candidates with familiarity in server installation, networking, and data center operations
- Knowledge of operating systems, networking protocols, hardware deployment, and system administration
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a controlled, secure, and highly operational environment
- Ability to follow technical procedures and maintain accurate documentation
- Ability to support scheduled or on-call shifts, including nights and weekends, as required
- CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+, BICSI Installer 1, OSHA 10, or equivalent certification
- Experience working in enterprise data centers, colocation facilities, or cloud infrastructure environments
- Experience with server hardware installation and data center infrastructure operations
- Familiarity with backup, data recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
- Experience supporting physical security and access control systems in data center environments
