Basic Function
Under the direction of the Superintendent, translate and produce a variety of general, technical, legal and medical documents, materials and script between English and designated language for schools and district office staff: provide simultaneous interpretations during formal presentations at schools and district meeting sites using interpretation equipment.
Representative DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Read, translate, and produce a variety of documents, forms, materials, information bulletins, website information, handbooks, correspondence and news releases; prepare drafts and finished, proofed translations; produce verbatim translations.
Provide simultaneous interpretations using a designated language for district and school functions; attend meetings as necessary; translate and interpret minutes of meetings; extract and summarize materials.
Use headphones and microphones during oral interpretations of meeting and presentations as necessary; use word processing equipment, microcomputers and standard office equipment.
Perform other duties, related to the job, as assigned.
Knowledge And AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE OF
Translation and interpreting techniques, procedures and associated equipment.
Designated language plus English.
The duties of a Translator – Interpreter.
Principles of auditing
Pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary in the designated language.
Computers, appropriate software for the job and peripheral equipment.
Modern office procedures and practices.
Ability To
Communicate and interact with others in a variety of both formal and informal settings using courtesy, tact and patience in a manner that reflects positively on the District.
Read, write, speak and translate English and the designated language. Extract and summarize material.
Education And ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalent plus additional training in education or a related field required. Experience as an Interpreter - Translator preferred.
Licenses And Other RequirementsPossession of a valid California driver’s license
Physical RequirementsHearing and speaking to exchange information; sufficient visual acuity to read letters and numbers; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; ability to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; hand-arm-eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and other office equipment; verbal ability to project over a large audience when interpreting, if necessary.
