About the Position

Under general direction of the Associate Director, the Supervising Painter will supervise and lead a crew of skilled and semi-skilled staff performing maintenance and projects as assigned. This position is responsible for supervising one or more small groups or crews comprised of semi-skilled and skilled journey-level staff.

Responsibilities

Planned Maintenance

  • Under the general direction of the Associate Director and in coordination with Work Control, this position is responsible for planning and assigning staff to a five-year scheduled maintenance plan designed to promote a predictive maintenance approach addressing the University’s aging infrastructure.
  • Lead staff to perform a wide range of journey-level and semi-skilled painting work, including maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction tasks across University facilities.
  • Assign staff to support paint shop and facilities project workloads to ensure projects are completed efficiently and within established time frames, as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate work order updates in the TMA system.
  • Ensure the Paint Shop Dashboard is current and reflects ongoing maintenance activities and project progress.

Projects

  • Supervises a work crew in support of projects, alterations, remodels, and new construction as needed.
  • Attend meetings and work closely with Planning, Design & Construction (PDC), project managers, customers, staff, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provides comprehensive technical leadership, conducts inspections, and ensures quality assurance of work performed by both staff and contractors.
  • Collaborate with project managers and customers to interpret complex plans and drawings, ensuring clarity and accuracy throughout the project.
  • Coordinate staff work schedules and assignments to meet project objectives, as well as sequencing and staging work to guarantee the availability of necessary materials and equipment before project start.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of internal operations and work collaboratively with other leads, supervisors, and project managers to schedule trade workers efficiently across multiple projects.
  • Responsible for preparing cost, material, and time estimates, ensuring the accuracy of staff entries in computerized recordkeeping or maintenance management systems.
  • Conduct detailed inspections to verify compliance with building and safety codes.
  • Design minor tenant improvements as assigned.
