Injection Molding & Maintenance Technician – Secondary Operations Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician in Injection Molding & Secondary Operations is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and secondary operation machinery, including ultrasonic welding systems. This role requires expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as a strong understanding of PLC troubleshooting. The technician will ensure equipment efficiency, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production processes.

Key Responsibilities Injection Molding Maintenance
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment (e.g., dryers, chillers, conveyors, robots).
  • Conduct preventive maintenance schedules to minimize unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in molding machines.
  • Assist in machine setup, calibration, and adjustments to optimize production efficiency.
  • Work with outside vendors or contractors for specialized repairs or upgrades.
Secondary Operations Maintenance
  • Maintain and repair secondary operation equipment, including ultrasonic welders, hot stamping machines, pad printers, trimming machines, and assembly automation.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in robotic handling systems and conveyor systems used for secondary processing.
  • Ensure ultrasonic welding equipment is properly calibrated and maintained for optimal weld quality.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to enhance efficiency and product consistency.
  • Recommend improvements in secondary processing methods to reduce defects and enhance output.
PLC Troubleshooting & Automation
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment, including input/output signals, sensors, and automated systems.
  • Make minor PLC program adjustments as needed to improve machine performance and efficiency.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to implement automation upgrades and resolve control system issues.
  • Maintain documentation of PLC programs, wiring diagrams, and control system modifications.
General Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies regarding equipment maintenance and workplace safety.
  • Assist in process improvements by identifying and implementing machine and operational upgrades.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools necessary for repairs and replacements.
  • Support production teams in identifying root causes of equipment failures and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in maintenance within an injection molding or plastics manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in molding machines and secondary operation equipment.
  • Experience with secondary operation machinery, including ultrasonic welding, hot stamping, and robotic automation.
  • Hands‑on experience with PLC troubleshooting, including ladder logic, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and on‑call duties as needed.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, and high temperatures.
  • Requires standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces as needed.

Pay: $25- $32
