Randstad is seeking an experienced, high-precision CNC Lathe Operator / Setup Machinist for a leading, premier precision manufacturing client in Hayward, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and performing multi-axis turning operations on complex parts. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-mix, precision environment and possesses setup capabilities, blueprint literacy, and first-piece inspection skills.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience:

    3+ years of hands-on CNC Lathe setup and operation in a high-precision manufacturing or job-shop environment.
  • Equipment Familiarity:
    Setup and operating experience with high-end CNC Lathes (experience with brands such as Mori Seiki, Nakamura-Tome, Haas, and Samsung is strongly preferred).
  • Technical

    Skills:
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T principles.
    • Solid understanding of G-code and M-code programming logic.
    • Hands-on experience with Fanuc, Haas, or similar CNC controls.
  • Measurement:
    Proficiency with precision inspection tools and shop math.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 lbs as required. ZPMLSTCM.

salary: $83,200 - $114,400 per year

Responsibilities
  • Machine Setup & Operation: Perform complete setups, prove-out programs, and operate 2-axis to multi-axis CNC Lathes.
  • Machining & Controls: Load programs, set tool offsets, establish work coordinates, and make minor G-code/M-code edits at the control.
  • Quality & Inspection: Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using standard precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, optical comparators).
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex engineering blueprints, GD&T symbols, and job traveler instructions.
  • Tooling Management: Select, inspect, set up, and adjust cutting tools, inserts, and work holding fixtures (chucks, collets, steady rests).
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to troubleshoot machining issues, optimize cycle times, and ensure tight tolerances.
  • Maintenance & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work area (5S) and perform standard preventive maintenance on machines.
