Be A Mentor Program
The Be A Mentor Program pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give of their time to be a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations and volunteer their personal time to be a caring friend to a youth. They serve as a role model, advocate, and resource.
The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help youth develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.
LGBTQ+ children, youth, and families too often experience trauma due to bias, and discrimination, including within their family, in their communities, and from public systems designed to serve their needs. According to the Trevor Project, "LGBTQ youth who report having at least one accepting adult were 40% less likely to report a suicide attempt in the past year." So we are looking for mentors who will love, support, and fully accept vulnerable LGBTQ youth in their communities — having one caring, trusted adult can make all the difference in their lives.
