The PositionUnder general supervision, maintain and repair county‑owned and operated drawbridges, storm water lift stations and associated equipment and facilities, including mechanical, electrical, water discharge and building operations systems. Perform related duties as required. Positions are at the journey level, work with minimal supervision, and report to a Bridge and Pump Supervisor.
Incumbents determine the quality of work, recommend necessary repairs, equipment modifications and installations.

- Maintaining and repairing county‑owned and operated drawbridges.
- Maintaining and repairing storm water lift stations and associated equipment and facilities, including mechanical, electrical, water discharge and building operations systems.
- Equivalent of three years full‑time experience as a Building Equipment Maintenance Worker or a higher‑level class in the Alameda County classified service (non‑classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, Consolidated Courts).
- Equivalent of four years full‑time experience in the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of heavy industrial electrical, mechanical, plumbing, control systems, engines and pumps.
License (required for all patterns): Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Class C Driver’s License. Submit evidence from the DMV showing current status and a clean 3‑year driving record.
Special Requirements:
- Normal hearing and eyesight, including depth perception and freedom from color and night blindness.
- Compliance with County and Cal OSHA policies, procedures and guidelines (such as Respiratory Protection).
Working Conditions:
- All weather; heavy traffic; large construction machinery.
- Underground and confined spaces.
- Open steel structures up to 180 ft. and pits 40 ft. below estuary level.
- 24‑hour on‑call standby duty for emergencies.
- Hazardous movable equipment.
- Climbing, working from heights, bending, stooping, lifting heavy objects.

- Knowledge of:
- Methods, tools and equipment for maintenance and repair of bridge and storm water lift station equipment.
- Safety practices for electrical and mechanical maintenance, marine traffic, and roadside work.
- Regulations governing operation of drawbridges and storm water lift stations.
- Mechanical systems (engines, gear drives, pumps, heat exchangers).
- HVAC and control systems.
