Job Overview
Insulation workers install and replace the materials used to insulate buildings or mechanical systems. Work may occur indoors or in both indoor and outdoor settings, including extreme temperatures. The workday typically involves standing, bending, and kneeling in confined spaces.
Wages (San Francisco Bay area): $32.46 per hour for entry‑level apprentices to $81.46 per hour for journeymen. Wages are determined by union scale as specified in the current collective bargaining agreement.
Work EnvironmentInsulators generally work indoors. Mechanical insulators work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme temperatures, often in confined spaces.
