PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This is a highly skilled position involving the control and operation of the asphalt paving machine .

This position will report directly to the Paving Foreman. Based on geographical location this position may require a CDL Tanker and HAZMAT endorsement.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently
  • Control material taken into the paver and the depths of material distributed through the machine
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving;
  • The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor;
  • Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site;
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently;
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; and
  • Perform any other general duties as specified.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and two years related asphalt and road construction experience;
  • Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment;
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check;
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical;
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
  • Report to work at the designated start time;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CONTINUED:

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. This job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel;
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
  • Be able to work overtime when required;
  • Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements;
  • Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and /
