GIS Manager
The Kentucky River Area Development District, an eight-county planning and development agency, is accepting applications for a GIS Manager. This position is responsible for managing the organization’s Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) equipment and databases.
Essential Duties and Tasks- Collect GPS data in the field using specialized equipment.
- Produce maps for numerous types of projects using ESRI’s ArcGIS Suite.
- Conduct data/spatial analysis, database design, specialized mapping, and drawing production.
- Consult and interact with local officials and government agencies in the KRADD region.
- Hazard Mitigation Plan mapping.
- Create project maps, shape files, KMZ/KML maps, story maps, dashboards, etc.
- Conversion of maps to usable format; ability to plot and print maps.
- Maintain digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
- WRIS mapping.
- KYTC centerline mapping GPS data collection and dataset updates.
- Update and maintain symbol set and other internal operation requirements for programs and enhanced 911 systems.
- Utilize Survey
123 and other mobile applications for various projects. - Pilot UAVs to capture footage and data for mapping, aerial photography, surveying, inspections, and other tasks.
- Conduct pre-flight inspections on drones and equipment to ensure proper functionality and monitor drones during flights and make necessary adjustments to ensure safe and accurate operation.
- Process and analyze captured data to produce actionable insights and reports.
- Maintain inventory and organize equipment for efficient deployment of drones.
- Adhere to regulations and best practices for drone operation and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- An Associate’s degree in Geology, Geography or related field.
- Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, public, and elected officials.
- Must be able to work under pressure and against frequent deadlines with little or no supervision.
