Overview

Performs ultrasound imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images as needed for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on equipment as instructed.

Responsibilities
  • Performs abdominal, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, biophysical, vascular, testicular, and breast examinations, including color flow and Doppler studies, renal biopsies, and fluid collections of localized areas.
  • Checks all images with the radiologist and consults about scan and report reading.
  • Provides written, unofficial reports of examinations.
  • Takes representative anatomical pictures, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes.
  • Marks images for proper definition and explanation.
  • Available for on‑call status as needed.
  • Attends required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Follows hospital exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter‑ and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet goals and objectives.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Sonography from an approved program (or Associate Degree in Radiology from an approved program, minimum).
  • Up to one year experience preferred (education can substitute for experience).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to meet hospital on‑call requirements.
  • Licensed or registry eligible in Ultrasound with requirement to become registered within 18 months. CPR required.
