Essential Duties & Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Document all treatments, changes in condition, accidents, and otherwise maintain all medical records as required.
- Be aware of changing documentation requirements and assure that the facility is in substantial compliance with all regulations.
- Help supervise the Nursing Assistants to assure that all resident care needs are met.
- Participate in rounds with physicians and assist physicians with special examinations and treatments as ordered.
- Prepare and administer medications, treatments, and procedures including subcutaneous and intermuscular injections.
- Transcribe and take appropriate action on physician's orders as directed including but not limited to Care Plan changes.
- Assist with performing all admitting and discharge assessments, and complete all other necessary paperwork.
- Assist/direct visitors.
- Clean equipment.
- Help monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet, physical activity, and administration of medications/treatment.
- Initiate requests for consultation or referral. Respond to requests from the resident, physician, or nursing staff.
- Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident's total regimen of care is maintained.
- Ensure that all department personnel, residents, and visitors follow the department's established policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and prepare MDS assessments for all residents.
- Oversee the transmission of MDS resident assessments.
- Prepare, monitor, and update assessments, Care Area Assessments, and Care Plans, as necessary.
- Participate in Care Plan meetings with residents and family members.
- Be aware of residents' exit to and reentry from hospitals.
- Help create an atmosphere of optimism, warmth, and interest in resident's personal and health care needs.
- Communicate with co-workers at all levels to adequately meet the needs of residents.
- Participate in facility committees and audits, as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information and facility business.
- Report to supervisor all complaints and grievances made by residents, families, visiting individuals, agencies, etc.
- Attend work and report in a timely manner for scheduled shifts.
- Notify supervisor of pending absence or tardiness within the time frame described in the personnel handbook.
- Assist the Administrator and others in developing, implementing, and updating written procedures for discharge planning.
- Complete remainder of forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., not considered as essential functions.
