Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step-Down/PCU travel assignment requiring at least 2 years of specialty experience and an active KY or compact RN license.

Details
  • 34-bed Step-Down/PCU unit in a community hospital setting
  • Patient population includes cardiac telemetry, neurological, respiratory, renal, oncology, orthopedic, and cardiovascular cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 (subject to fluctuation based on census)
  • Day shift schedule rotating between 3x12 and 4x12 hours (7:00–19:30), totaling 84 hours per two-week pay period
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required within scope of practice
  • Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated
  • Meditech EMR (preferred experience)
Requirements
  • Active KY or compact RN license currently in hand — no exceptions
  • Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Step-Down/PCU experience required
  • Proficiency with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and cardiac drip titration
  • Experience with respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care
  • Experience with heparin protocols, PCA, and IV insulin protocols
  • Valid Driver's License with address matching permanent residence required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: 1 charge nurse or higher, 1 supervisor — both completed within the last year
  • Copies of all certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Orientation is held bi-weekly
  • Up to 7 days of RTO will be considered; RTO must be declared upfront and no changes will be accepted after submission
  • Must be willing to work either a major or minor holiday during the assignment
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Travelers who have worked within this health system for one year must take a minimum 6-month break before being eligible to return
  • Travel pairs are accepted on a limited basis; pairs will not be placed on the same shift or unit
  • AVADE Level I & II certification is preferred
  • PICC line management and chemotherapy monitoring experience are preferred
  • First-time travelers may be considered depending on relevant Step-Down experience
