Sunrise Telecom, Inc. is seeking a motivated and dependable Fiber Splicer 1 to join our telecommunications construction team. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals looking to start or grow their career in the fiber optics and telecommunications industry. The Fiber Splicer 1 will assist experienced splicers with fiber installation, preparation, testing, and maintenance while learning industry standards, safety procedures, and technical skills.
This role offers hands‑on training and growth opportunities within a fast‑paced and expanding telecommunications environment.
- Assist Fiber Splicers with fiber optic cable preparation and splicing
- Learn to perform fusion splicing on single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber cables
- Assist with OTDR and power meter testing
- Read and interpret basic construction prints and splice diagrams
- Install fiber enclosures, terminals, and related telecommunications equipment
- Support aerial and underground fiber construction crews
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of work completed
- Follow all company safety policies and customer requirements
- Operate hand tools and basic telecommunications equipment safely
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and company vehicles
- Travel to job sites as needed
- Basic knowledge of construction or telecommunications preferred but not required
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions - Strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Ability to follow directions and safety procedures
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Previous telecommunications, utility, or construction experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
- Ability to distinguish color‑coded fiber cables
- Outdoor field environment in varying weather conditions
- May require overtime, weekends, and travel depending on project needs
- Safety‑sensitive position requiring strict adherence to company safety policies
