Credentials needed: Must be at least 18, no older than 35; must have participated in at least one child‑serving agency or state‑funded service related to youth’s emotional, social, behavioral, or substance use disability.
Special skills/knowledge required: High school diploma or equivalent, Kentucky Family Leadership Academy (KFLA) training, demonstrated leadership and advocacy in behavioral health field.
Primary Functions:
- Use personal stories to teach through experience.
- Serve as a role model for clients.
- Empower clients to use their voice and choice during development and implementation of plans.
- Enhance client relationships with community partners.
Shift/Days and
Work Hours:
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
Per 908 KAR 2:240 Section 2, Youth Peer Support Specialists must meet the eligibility criteria established by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Between 18 and 35 years old.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience as a child or youth with emotional, social, behavioral, or substance use challenges as defined in DSM.
- Received or are receiving services from at least one child‑serving agency or state‑funded service related to such disabilities.
- Completed or in the process of completing the Kentucky Youth Peer Support Specialist Core Competency Training.
- Completed or will complete the Kentucky Family Leadership Academy (KFLA) training.
- Willing and able to appropriately discuss and share personal experience to support other youth.
- Not convicted of disqualifying offenses as defined by state regulation.
- Understand that providing false information may result in disqualification from certification or employment.
