Base pay range
$28.05/hr - $42.10/hr
Responsibilities- Performs duties in the scrub role as assigned.
- Prepares sterile field in a timely manner and maintains boundaries prior to and during procedure.
- Complies with departmental policy on specimens, counts, and disposition of contaminated instruments.
- Assists the physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting, and cutting sutures as required and instructed.
- Act as preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
- Maintains on‑call availability and responds to emergency situations, prioritizing patient condition.
- Maintains a safe work environment per regulatory standards.
- Anticipates physician needs, ensuring all required items are readily available on the sterile field.
- Participates in Surgical Time‑Out and ensures procedure continues only with team agreement.
- Verifies instrument/supply/equipment availability per physician preference card and reads scrub tips thoroughly.
- Assists with opening sterile supplies and instruments, and with clean up and turnover upon case completion.
- Efficiently uses supplies to avoid waste and reduce costs.
- Supports a cooperative work environment, shares clinical knowledge, and follows Surgical Services goals.
- Ensures proper instrument and equipment function, tags and reports any malfunctioning items.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and promotes a culture of patient safety through reporting and participation in safety initiatives.
- Serves as patient advocate, collaborating with physicians and the health‑care team to ensure patient welfare.
- Maintains current competencies, completes assignments/projects independently, and participates in unit/hospital committees.
- Maintains educational records and timecard.
- Graduate of a surgical technologist program, or 2 years of surgical scrub experience.
- CPR certified.
- Must obtain Certified Surgical Technologist certification within 3 months of employment.
- Must be willing to work with exposures to body fluids, waste, chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases, and life‑threatening diseases.
- On‑call availability (nights, weekends, holidays).
- Rotating shifts.
- Ability to move heavy patients and equipment and stand for long periods.
- Flexibility to handle stressful, changing environments.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
- Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; for >35 pounds use patient‑handling equipment with assistance.
