Position: Special Education (MOCI) Teacher

Hazel Park is seeking applicants for the position of Special Education Teacher - Cognitive Impairment Endorsement (SE) serving students in grades 6-8.

Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Cognitive Impairment Endorsement (SE) required
  • Highly Qualified in accordance with No Child Left Behind Guidelines
  • Experience in providing instructional services to students who are certified Cognitive Impaired
  • Experience in developing Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Ability to write, implement, and monitor IEPs
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of consistent use of data to monitor student growth, inform instruction, and develop interventions
  • Experience in differentiated instruction, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports Systems, and individualized programming options for students
  • Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Superior communication skills in writing and speaking with all levels of management and staff
  • Applicants must be able to show proof of a satisfactory criminal background check as defined by state standards
Responsibilities
  • Provide differentiated instruction to students on caseload
  • Evaluate and monitor student growth, and develop targeted interventions
  • Maintain contact with parents of caseload students
  • Complete caseload monthly Medicaid Billing
  • Plan and participate in MET and IEPT meetings when appropriate
  • Consult, communicate, and collaborate with other professionals regarding specific students, educational plans and programs
  • Adapt materials and activities according to students needs
  • Maintain records in accordance with professional standards, federal and state guidelines, and school district policy
  • Prioritize and schedule tasks
  • Transition planning for Adult Transition students
  • Functional Curriculum for Moderate Cognitive Impaired students
  • Work Base Learning and Community Base Instruction
  • PBIS tiers of support
  • Support systems for young adults with Autism
  • Manage inventory of equipment, assessments, and supplies
  • CPI Training preferred
  • Direct and supervise the classroom paraprofessional
  • Other duties as assigned by administrator

Accordance with the Salary Schedule - H.P.E.A. Contract
