Special Education Teacher
- Cognitive Impairment Endorsement
Hazel Park is seeking applicants for the position of Special Education Teacher
- Cognitive Impairment Endorsement (SE) serving students in grades 6-8. This is a 10-month, full-time position under the Hazel Park Educational Association (H.P.E.A.) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Reports to the Building Principal.
Specific qualifications include:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Cognitive Impairment Endorsement (SE) required
- Highly qualified in accordance with No Child Left Behind Guidelines
- Experience in providing instructional services to students who are certified Cognitive Impaired
- Experience in developing Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans
- The ability to write, implement, and monitor IEP's
- Knowledge and/or understanding in consistent use of data to monitor student growth, inform instruction, and develop interventions
- Experience in differentiated instruction, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports Systems, and individualized programming options for students
- Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
- Superior communication skills in writing and speaking with all levels of management and staff
- Applicants must be able to show proof of a satisfactory criminal background check as defined by state standards
Responsibilities include:
- Providing differentiated instruction to students on caseload
- Evaluating and monitoring student growth, and developing targeted interventions
- Maintaining contact with parents of caseload students
- Completing caseload monthly Medicaid Billing Plan and participating in MET and IEPT meetings when appropriate
- Consulting, communicating, and collaborating with other professionals regarding specific students, educational plans, and programs
- Adapting materials and activities according to students needs
- Maintaining records in accordance with professional standards, federal and state guidelines, and school district policy
- Prioritizing and scheduling tasks
- Transition planning for Adult Transition students
- Functional Curriculum for Moderate Cognitive Impaired students
- Work Base Learning and Community Base Instruction
- PBIS tiers of support
- Support systems for young adults with Autism
- Managing inventory of equipment, assessments, and supplies
- CPI Training preferred
- Directing and supervising the classroom paraprofessional
- Other duties as assigned by administrator
Compensation:
According to the Salary Schedule - H.P.E.A. Contract
